Joe McDonald passed away unexpectedly at the age of 76 years as a result of complications during open heart surgery. He was a devoted husband and father - married to Joyce for 55 years and father to Jennifer and Amy. He was an amazing grandfather who loved his four grandkids so much and would attend any event he could get to from dance to trap shooting, concerts and soccer.
He was not afraid of a hard day's work and demonstrated that by starting his own pork production business and then after retiring went to work as a semi-truck driver. He loved being outdoors - hunting, fishing, planting trees or just driving around to visit and catch up with neighbors and friends. He never met a stranger but befriended all by just striking up a conversation and asking about them their story.
This last year without him has been very hard for our family as we miss him so much - his laughter, stories and hugs! At the same time, we are so proud that he had chosen to be an organ donor and made that known on his driver's license. We knew he wanted to be a donor but during that time at the hospital, we totally forgot about it. Because dad made sure to have this on his driver's license, his wishes were granted and he was able to donate his eyes to someone who needed them. Knowing that someone else is now able to see better and enjoy their loved ones, the beauty of the outdoors and more - is a reminder of who dad was and that a part of him lives on in others.
