Richard Musick

Where to begin. My father was my one and only rock my whole life no matter what us siblings did, good or bad. He was such a nice man—he could never say no to anyone. And if he did, he asked me to do it for him—I did in a heartbeat. He served 2 tours in Vietnam then became a lineman for a phone company up until retirement. He raised 4 of us, my brother and I and my 2 sisters whom he adopted when he married their mom. The last 2 years of his life I helped him with everything. He had COPD and congestive heart failure. He ended up in hospice and survived 6 months. His going into hospice was the hardest thing ever; then he passed which was even worse on my heart. I’m very grateful he went peacefully in his sleep. I’m so proud of him and so proud he was a donor. Knowing parts of him live through someone else makes my heart feel so good. His passing date is coming up soon. October 22 will be a year, and it still seems impossible. I still can't get through a full conversation without losing control of my emotions. He was and still is the best person in my life. We love and miss him so very much. I’d like to thank the Iowa Lions Eye Bank for everything and sending little thank-you cards. You guys are the best! I’m gonna leave this here as I'm having trouble seeing through my tears. I love you so damned much, dad!
